This applet is centered on classical mythology. All interaction is
based on the content of the user’s input. The user is supposed to enter the name
of a mythological figure (gods, goddesses, kings, nymphs, etc.), choose a filter
and itensity of the filter between 0.1 and 1.
The filters work according to the mythological figure chosen by the
user; i.e., the information displayed for ‘Zeus’ will be different than the
information for ‘Apollo’. Here’s the concept behind each filter:
- Uppercase: will convert lowercase letters to uppercase letters
proportionally to the intensity set by the user
- Lowercase: will convert uppercase letters to lowercase letters
proportionally to the intensity set by the user
- Noise: in the sense that ‘noise’ can be any kind of interference in
information this filter displays "deformed" words which are related to
the specific mythological figure. The amount of information varies according to
the intensity of the filter
- Blur: can be thought of as something moving too quickly to be clearly
perceived; therefore, this filter will display a collection of related words
very rapidly on the screen. The time interval from one word to the next is based on the intensity factor: more intense = faster.
- Enhance: the filter enhances (hopefully) the user’s knowledge about the
chosen figure. It displays short paragraphs about the myth entered by the
user; it also relates this information back to the words given in the ‘noise’ filter
as a way of explaining their connection to the chosen figure.
PS: right now the system understands the following names: Zeus,
Athena, Oedipus, Venus, Aphrodite.
