	in dealing with the notions of expansion and contraction i have focused two qualities: motion and meaning. in p2 i emphasize the processes of expansion and contraction through the use of expanding and contracting spiral paths. as the individual letters expand relative to each other, they follow an expanding path before coming to rest at their revised positions. in p3 i continue to utilize spiral paths but as a transition between different levels of meaning. time is used to position tokens a certain distance along the spiral path as it progresses through more sophisticated levels of meaning (ticks, hash code, int value, char value, word, sentence).
