water ripplesthe essence of the dynamics of a chat or live conversation are different speakers, the disturbance of an otherwise empty space, the evanescent nature of the words and the multidirectionality of the sound produced. to represent these aspects i was reminded of throwing pebbles in a still pond.
the pond and pebbles metaphor carries quite well. the pebbles are the words that as they drop create a disturbance in the pond. as more and more people speak, more and more pebbles are dropped and the pond become filled as each word irradiates outward and takes up the whole space. space.
it also reminds me of a conversation because you can look at the whole pond without paying attention to a single word, much like you can stand in a crowded room and just hear talking in the background. however, you can concentrate in a single person by simply looking at that particular spot. all the messages from a particular connection are always dropped in the same place.
the fleeting nature of the sound of a word also comes across because just like a water ripple it will dissappear as it goes further.
lastly, dropping the letters one by one, allows one to appreciate the value each adds to the word.
