Rouen in the mid-1890's

Synthetic re-renderings of historic photographs of the Rouen Cathedral,
projected onto the surface of a 3D Rouen Cathedral CG model
and seen from different points of view.

In this animation we have projected historic photographs of the Rouen Cathedral onto the surface of our 3D model, and then re-rendered these photographs from a series of different positions. The frames used in this animation were synthesized from only three historic photographs.

A user of the Rouen Revisited kiosk would experience a sequence similar to this if she were to set the kiosk to display old photographs (versus Monet paintings or new photographs) and then scrub in a clockwise loop using the "point of view" interface. In the interactive kiosk, a 3-dimensional viewing surface is provided, across which users can create their own paths from which to view the cathedral's façade.
